EPDM Rubber Roofing

EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is a synthetic rubber membrane that has been one of the most widely installed commercial flat roofing systems in North America for over five decades. Its exceptional UV and ozone resistance make it particularly well-suited to the intense South Texas sun, and its flexibility in cold temperatures (though rarely an issue in the RGV) makes it one of the most durable membranes available for low-slope commercial applications.

EPDM is typically specified as a dark (black) membrane, which absorbs heat and can increase cooling loads compared to white TPO — a consideration in the South Texas climate. However, EPDM is available in white formulations, and its adhesion and seaming characteristics make it the preferred system for certain building geometries and detail conditions where TPO or PVC would present installation challenges. American Contracting USA is a certified EPDM installer through Carlisle SynTec and Firestone Building Products.
